Back in 2023 getting ready for the very first SunYears show I wanted to do a couple covers.
I stumbled upon this through a friend recommending it and what drew me in was the title!
And you know what it’s a song as perfectly written as the title suggests!
The different sections, chords and lyrics just hit right where they should.
Of course Logan Ledgers original is kind of steeped in uptown classy Roy Orbisonesque
Brill Building style. But I could hear it as a rawer garage rocker, which is how we approached it.
It worked so well, we kept playing it, also with the advantage of people mostly not being familiar with the original. While recording some other covers for the “Spanner in the works” EP we tracked this live in the studio, including vox, just a few minor guitar/perc overdubs. The mastering was a deliberate lo-fi job to accentuate the “nuggets”-feel and energy. Enjoy!
